Princess Anne has long been celebrated for her unfaltering energy, regularly ranking as one of the hardest working royals, if not the hardest working royal.
Among her hundreds of charities, patronages and titles, Anne has been closely involved with the creation of several charities, notably The Princess Royal's Trust for Carers (now Carers Trust), Transaid and Riders for Health.
Just last year she was also snagged a brand new role that pleased many fans, the first patron of The Remembrance Trust. And now, according to the UK tabloid, Daily Star Sunday, she is set to become the new head of the Royal Marines.
It is reported that a number of new military appointments will be announced by Buckingham Palace later this year, including Princess Anne becoming the Captain-General of the marines.
Regiments such as the marines, the Grenadier Guards, the Irish Rangers, and the Yorkshire Regiment have been left without an honorary head after Prince Harry and Prince Andrew were removed from their roles.
Anne is already profoundly familiar with military life, being married to a naval officer, Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, and heading up different regiments including Colonel in Chief of the King's Royal Hussars, the Royal Scots, The Gurkhas, and the Royal Army Veterinary Corps.
However, the potential appointment to the head of the marines would be groundbreaking as Anne would be the first woman to hold the rank in history. As Captain-General of the 350-year-old Marine Corps, Anne’s duties would include visiting young marines in training, attending ceremonial events, and joining the commandos in the field.
Prince Harry held the rank for a few short months before he and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties and moved to California.
A senior Royal Marine source told the Daily Star that the Corps would be delighted if the Princess Royal becomes the next Captain-General.
The source reportedly said, “Princess Anne has a long tradition of working with the Royal Navy and would be a perfect fit for the role. Harry was only with us for a short time and we gave him his green beret, which concerned some people, and then he had to stand back from public life.”
