Prince William and Kate Middleton’s surprising chore for Prince George was reportedly revealed by the Duchess herself during a visit earlier this year.
- The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to have explained that their eldest son had a special job during half term this year.
- Prince George was supposedly put in charge of moving the animal feed when they visited their Norfolk estate.
- This royal news comes as Sophie Wessex made a poignant tribute to Prince Philip with an extra personal touch.
There are now just a few days to go before Prince George and Princess Charlotte are set to begin their summer break from Thomas’s Battersea school, meaning plenty of family time lies ahead for the Cambridge family. Although based during term-time at their London residence, Kensington Palace, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children often spend time at their countryside abode, Anmer Hall, during the school breaks. They also often travel to Scotland to spend some time with the Queen at Balmoral when she undertakes her traditional extended summer break there.
But despite being third in the royal line of succession and set to be future King, it seems that Prince George’s school holidays aren’t all fun and games. His royal parents reportedly once tasked him with a very important and rather unusual job during their time at Anmer…
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have previously spoken about their love for Norfolk and according to The Mirror, during a visit earlier this year Kate Middleton made a very enlightening comment about her eldest son’s half-term chore there. The Cambridges travelled to Wales to mark St David’s Day in March a few weeks after the February half term.
As part of their busy day of engagements, Prince William and Duchess Kate visited Pant Farm near Abergavenny, owned by Gary and Jess Yeomans. They got to pet a few adorable goats and the Duke asked about a robot silage sweeper.
Gary is understood to have explained that it’s used to help move animal feed, leading Kate to reportedly reveal, “That was George's job at half term - moving feed."
At 8 years old, Prince George seems to have been entrusted with a very important task on the family’s estate. Prince William and Kate Middleton's chore for their son perhaps allows him a sense of independence and also an opportunity to bear more responsibility ahead of his future role as King.

And whilst it’s not known if Prince George’s task is something he takes on every time they return to Anmer Hall, he could well be enjoying time helping with looking after the animals again over his summer break. After all, moving the animal feed isn’t the only time Prince William and Kate have encouraged their children to get involved.
Back in 2020 during a visit to Cardiff, the Evening Standard reported that the Duke of Cambridge supposedly revealed that the kids had been getting involved during the lambing season.
He reportedly spoke to Rhian Roberts who is supported by the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust and explained, “We’ve been lambing with the children this week. Charlotte wasn’t sure at first but George was straight in there. Louie loves the tractors. They love seeing the lambs and feeding the lambs.”
If this is indeed correct, then their eldest son certainly seems to be an animal-lover and Prince George’s sweet gesture during lockdown suggests this too. An insider has claimed that the future King helped to organize a bake sale for wildlife conservation charity, Tusk, indicating the little Prince’s dedication to protecting the natural world around him.
