Prince Harry says 'Megxit' is a misogynistic term that was 'amplified by royal correspondents'
Prince Harry says 'Megxit' is a misogynistic term invented by trolls as he takes aim at UK journalists who he says targeted Meghan Markle
In a recent interview, the Duke of Sussex discussed his fractious relationship with the British Press as Prince Harry says 'Megxit' is a misogynistic term invented to disparage his wife.
- Prince Harry has defended his wife Meghan Markle in a discussion about internet regulation with Wired.
- The Duke of Sussex explained that 'Megxit' is a misogynistic term that was invented to harm his wife Meghan.
- In other royal news, Prince Edward rejected this royal title because of his love of Colin Firth's character in a '90s rom-com.
In an interview with Wired, Prince Harry has spoken out about 'Megxit,' a term coined in 2020 to describe Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down as senior members of the royal family.
This word was a combination of the name Meghan and Exit, which paid homage to the word 'Brexit' which described Britain's choice to leave the European Union.
Prince Harry said in the interview that this word is a 'misogynistic term that was perpetuated by the British press after it was invented by an internet troll.
"More than 70 percent of the hate speech about my wife on Twitter can be traced to fewer than 50 accounts. Perhaps the most troubling part of this is the number of British journalists interacting and amplifying the hate and the lies, they regurgitate these lies as truth," said the Prince.
"In fact, the term, maybe people know this or don’t, the term 'Megxit' was or is a misogynistic term and it was created by a troll, amplified by royal correspondents and it grew and grew and grew onto mainstream media, but it began with a troll.”
In the same interview with Wired, Prince Harry revealed that he warned Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey about the coup day before the deadly Capitol riots.

Although this conversation was focused on the need to regulate what is posted on social media, Prince Harry spoke about his personal experiences with this type of media bullying as he spoke about his mother Princess Diana's struggles with the press.
Speaking about misinformation, Prince Harry said, "I've felt it personally over the years and I'm now watching it globally."

The Prince continued to say, "They [media outlets] don’t report the news, they create it and they’ve successfully turned fact-based news into opinion-based gossip with devastating consequences for the country."
"So I know the story all too well. I lost my mother to this self-manufactured rabidness and obviously, I’m determined not to lose the mother to my children to the same thing."
Princess Diana and Prince Charles' relationship was a hot topic for press coverage and on many occasions, Prince Harry has criticized the press for hounding his mother.
In an interview for one of the best royal documentaries on the royal family 'Diana, 7 Days,' Prince Harry openly blamed the paparazzi for Diana's death.
"The people that chased her into the tunnel were the same people that were taking photographs of her while she was still dying in the backseat of the car," said Harry as he revealed she was still alive albeit injured when the paparazzi found her.
This documentary was released in 2017 to mark the 20 years since Princess Diana's death,
