Super-soft silicone covers the entire body of the device, apart from a small strip at the back, and makes the whole toy feel premium and pleasurable to handle. While it’s great to use with a partner as all wand vibrators are, it’s worth noting that the extra-long shaft on this one makes it easier than other models to use yourself, without having to stretch. It can also help target those harder-to-reach erogenous zones.

Using this Lelo wand isn't too different from using a bullet vibrator, to be honest - it's just a little larger. There are 10 vibrating modes to choose from, navigated via two buttons on the shaft and, once the body wand massager is charged up, the intensity of some of these settings is incredible. The best wand for couples

The Wand by We-Vibe is an XXL choice with an ultra-flexible neck that can be used on its own or with the two accompanying attachments - one designed to stimulate the clitoris and the other to stimulate a penis (but you can also use it on the clitoris much like a clitoral stimulator). This makes it a great choice for couples as it's essentially a three-in-one device.

It's also one of the quiet vibrators on our list. The Smart Silence function is impressive and something I've found unique to We-Vibe's excellent range of toys. The wand will only buzz when it comes in contact with the skin, thanks to the clever sensor on the head that ensures the vibes only begin when you want them to. I thought this was a great feature as it stops unnecessary buzzing or louder vibrations when the toy accidentally bumps into another surface, like the bed.

Even in the Lovehoney sale, this wand is a little pricey - but it's one you'll use for years to come, so it's certainly worth the investment. It's also one of the best vibrators on Amazon.

The best multi use wand vibrator

If you were to just buy one sex toy, it should be the Satisfyer Triple Oh Wand Vibrator. This unique wand vibrator doubles up as one of the best rabbit vibrators, offering clitoris-focused stimulation on one end and dual stimulation on the other.

Health Editor Grace Walsh says: "Each side acts as a handle for the other part of the toy, there's no wasted space or unnecessary parts. Best mini wand vibrator

Looking for a small and discreet wand vibrator to slide into your bedside drawer or bathroom cabinet unnoticed? The Lovehoney Ignite 20 Function Rechargeable Wand Vibrator is the perfect choice. At 101mm in length, it's a toy that measures just a little longer than an index finger.

This does mean you have to use the toy with your fingers rather than holding the handle in your palm as you would do with the Lelo Smart Wand 2, but for those who want something even more akin to one of the best bullet vibrators with all the flexibility of a wand, this is the one to go for. There are still an impressive 20 functions, including three speeds and 17 different patterns so you can find something for you. The vibrator also charges easily via USB, much like our pick of the best, so there's no need to stock up on batteries.

However, it's worth noting - as brilliant as this small vibrator is, it's far from the most powerful on our list. "This vibrator would be more of a toy for foreplay than the main event for me," says our tester Laura. "It's not very powerful. I had to keep it on the highest setting at all times to get good vibrations. I couldn't have any variation in speed. However, it's relatively budget-friendly compared to some of the other small wand vibrators I've had over the years and it does work well. I've never found the need for a travel lock but knowing there's one on the toy makes me feel more comfortable storing this sex toy."

The best budget wand vibrator

The Lovehoney 3-Speed Micro Magic Wand Vibrator is so easy to use - it's ideal if you're new to sex toys and looking for one of the best sex toys for beginners. As the name suggests, there are only three settings to choose from, so you're limited - but I found this made the toy simple to navigate in the heat of the moment.

Despite its small size, it's relatively versatile with a flexible neck to help you find the spot that works best. It's also, thanks to the size, very easy to tuck away discreetly and store between uses.

Unlike the other wand vibrators on this list, however, the Lovehoney 3-Speed Micro Magic Wand Vibrator is battery-operated. This keeps the cost of the toy down to just £20, making it the cheapest vibrator on our list, but it means you'll have to be on the lookout for low battery and be sure to keep some spares on hand when using this toy - there's nothing more annoying than the slow whir of a vibrator you were planning to use.

"This is the most premium vibrator overall in my collection," says our tester Laura. "The silicone material feels so silky and soft underhand, making holding the toy a pleasure on its own. The INMI Ultra Thrust-Her Wand Massager is another unique wand vibrator worth exploring if you want something different from your toy. This one offers internal and external stimulation in one toy without any need to swap out the heads. Much like the Satisfyer Triple Oh Wand Vibrator, you simply need to switch ends to reap the benefits of two toys in one.

There is a classic wand head on one end and a dildo-shaped toy on the other, designed to feel like the real deal by offering throbs and thrusts with vibrations. This makes it, in my opinion, the perfect accessory for solo play if you enjoy a little of everything in the bedroom.

To enjoy the extra thrusting setting (which is around 152mm long), you do have to make sacrifices on the wand side of the device. At 273mm, the INMI Ultra Thrust-Her Wand Massager isn’t quite as large as some of the other mega massagers, so it’s hard to reach the trickier parts of your body without the long handle. However, it’s great for seeing which sensations you prefer, which can help you make decisions on what sex toys should be in your arsenal going forward.

Le Wand Rechargeable Massager is the most traditional wand vibrator on our list. It's large, with a long plastic handle and simple buttons, and looks like a microphone with a bulbous head. Wand vibrators are some of the most-loved sex toys around. However, they can be quite heavy. For some, this makes a big difference, so it's a good idea to consider your own preferences for weight when buying a wand.

Even the box it comes in features a pretty design that wouldn’t look out of place in a boutique.

Just one downside is that it is only submersible and not fully waterproof so, if you plan on using yours underwater for more than 30 minutes at a time, it might be safer to look for a different option like the Lovehoney Ignite 20 Function Rechargeable Wand Vibrator.

Testing the best wand vibrators

How we tested

When deciding on our selection of the best wand vibrators, we enlisted the help of two experts: Gigi Engle, ACS, certified sex educator, and Nadia Deen, a sex educator and multi-disciplinary product designer in the pleasure space. They suggested we test vibrators with a wide range of uses and features, highlighting a couple of factors for us to consider (as highlighted below) since everyone is different. "Unlike a smaller bullet vibrator, wands offer broader stimulation, meaning they cover a wider area, and therefore give you more chance of an orgasm," says Deen, who is also the founder of AM Appointment.

"Don't be afraid to get creative with what you like," adds Engle, who is also the author of All The F*cking Mistakes: a guide to sex, love, and life. "You can use it alone, as part of mutual masturbation, or in tandem with a partner."

Following this, we collected a selection from top brands, including Le Wand, Lovehoney, Lelo, We-Vibe, and Satisfyer. When testing, with the experts' comments in mind, we considered these key factors:

• Design: As noted, there are so many different designs of wand vibrators out there. We tested a selection but only the designs that were most beneficial made it onto our list. There's no point in having all the bells and whistles if the toy misses the point.
• Size: Smaller, lightweight, and portable wand vibrators are best if you plan to travel with your toy. Larger wands are more versatile but anything too bulky or awkward to handle could be a real mood killer so consider what size you're comfortable using.
• Power: Speaking of mood killers, no one wants a wand vibrator with a battery that's going to run out just as they're about to climax. We tested each vibrator to see how long the battery life lasts and how easy it was to charge.
• Added extras: The more attachments and functions = the more variety in the bedroom. Some people will want this while others won't, so we tested a variety of wand vibrators both with and without added extras.
• Price: The best wand vibrators aren't cheap. You can find an affordable body wand massager that gets the job done, however. How to choose a wand vibrator for you
