The best eyelash growth serums for stronger, thicker, longer lashes
We've tried and tested the best eyelash growth serums for natural flutter without extensions
Naturally fluttery lashes can be yours with the best eyelash growth serums on the market. These strengthening, growth-boosting products are sweeping the beauty industry and it seems like every brand is bringing out their version - so we put them to the test.
For sparse, short, and straight lashes, even the best mascara might not be enough to achieve the flutter you desire. Instead, if you want to know how to grow eyelashes naturally, then an eyelash growth serum is the way to go. Wondering how these products work? "When faced with stress, menopause symptoms, poor diet and topical stresses such as perming, tinting, and lash extensions, the lash will not survive all three phases of the hair cycle,” explains Natalia Ferrara, Global Educator at Revitalash Cosmetics.“Eyelash growth serums provide a healthy environment for your lashes by combating biological and topical stressors."
With so many serums on the market with varying prices, it can be tricky to know where to turn. That's why our expert testers have put the latest and greatest on trial to bring you our pick of the best eyelash growth serums for natural flutter.
How we tested the best eyelash growth serums
Why you can trust Woman & Home
We enlisted a range of testers to help us assess the best eyelash growth serums on the market. These products take time to kick in, so to ensure we gave each one the chance to really get to work, we used each of them for a minimum of one month, sometimes several, paying close attention to how our lashes changed during this time. Aside from lash growth, the main factors we looked at were speed of results, ease of application and how each serum felt on the lashes, whether they caused any irritation, and whether each one was really worth the price tag.

1. RevitaLash Advanced Lash Conditioning Serum

The original and very best eyelash growth serum money can buy, RevitaLash is our top pick if you want to ditch the best mascara for short lashes and develop some natural length. The combination of impressive ingredients will transform your lashes from sparse and short to long and thick in a matter of weeks, as well as boosting flexibility and shine. Created by Dr Michael Brinkenhoff to help his wife re-grow her lashes following cancer treatment, this serum quickly became an industry game-changer with the clinical testing to back it up.
Our tester, Gaynor, said:
"I have used RevitaLash for years and it is undoubtedly the best eyelash growth serums out there. After just one week of using it, my friends and family pointed out the difference in my usually short and sparse lashes, which I've never had with another product. It doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes at all, and the product is quick and easy to apply (thanks to the thin brush) with no heavy or sticky feeling left on my lids afterward. Despite the price tag, I will always repurchase as it really does work wonders for those who want quick and noticeable results."
2. UKLash Eyelash Serum

If you struggle with hair loss, this serum will give you the long and thick lashes of your dreams. The reviews on the UKLash site speak for themselves, as tens of thousands of customers hail this as a miracle product that gives them the same effect as the best false lashes. With a more affordable price tag than some other eyelash growth serums, this is set to become a new holy grail product for those who want a dramatic change.
Our deputy editor, Anna Paul, said:
"I love this serum. Not only has it given me long fluttery lashes, they actually feel conditioned. I have quite sensitive skin and I'm not super dexterous so I was initially concerned about using the product so close to my eyes. But even I couldn't get the application wrong: a swipe on my eyelids every night was all that was required. The results were pretty quick too, and within three weeks my eyelashes already looked longer. In fact, within the first week, I was getting comments. As someone who likes a bit of instant gratification and typically gives up on beauty regimes that don't yield instant results, this is important. I have sung this product's praises so highly that my sisters, friend, and mum now all have this nifty lotion too. I also really liked the packaging - the sleek black tube is compact (slightly smaller than my mascaras) and I could carry it around with me on my travels. Worth every cent."
3. Augustinus Bader The Eyebrow and Lash Enhancing Serum

Struggles with hair loss can be challenging to navigate, especially when it comes to brows and lashes that need a little extra TLC. This Augustinus Bader serum is designed to work on both brows and lashes, promoting reduced shedding and faster, natural hair growth. It also uses keratin for improved hair health and protects against environmental aggressors that may harm the lashes - what can't it do?
Our beauty writer, Amelia Yeomans, said:
"I have been using this serum on my eyelashes and eyebrows for about a month now, and I have definitely seen a difference. My eyelashes now look significantly longer than they used to when just wearing my best tubing mascara alone. I have very sensitive eyes but this serum hasn't irritated them at all, and I love the sturdy plastic applicator that distributes ample product but doesn't leave any residue. My lashes and eyebrows feel healthier and look better than they ever have in terms of shine and thickness, which is a huge plus if you want to reduce sparseness. The results have definitely been gradual rather than dramatic, so I would recommend this serum for those who want to focus mainly on hair health but would welcome some length and volume too."
4. No7 Lash Impact Serum

As this lash serum is full of hydrating ingredients like glycerin and panthenol, it's brilliant for dry, sparse lashes in need of a pick-me-up. Its hypo-allergenic formula is also great for sensitive eyes that get irritated easily, so you'll want to opt for this if itchiness is a common problem for you. It comes in at a very reasonable price compared to some of the other eyelash growth serums in this guide, so it's a good one to start off with that won't cause irritation.
Our beauty writer, Emma North, said:
"The more affordable price tag is a great plus and I did find this eyelash growth serum to be beneficial to the lashes, leaving them longer, fuller, and darker than before. And while the gentle formula isn't quite as advanced as some other eyelash growth serums on the market, it does make a great daily lash treatment if your eyes sting when using other ones. The soft and small brush makes for easy application and the serum applies clear, so it can be used day or night."
5. Lancôme Cils Booster Lash Revitalising Serum

Boasting the chicest packaging of the bunch, Lancôme's eyelash serum is formulated with a trio of powerhouse ingredients including their kerasolution complex (a combination of 3 amino acids) plus hyaluronic acid and cica. It is designed for damaged and over-processed lashes, as well as reducing lash shedding during makeup removal. This is definitely the best eyelash growth serum if you're focused on lash health rather than length.
Our beauty writer, Emma North, said:
"The serum feels a little bit thicker than others I've used, almost like a deeply moisturizing lash mask, and is brilliant for sparse lashes or lashes that shed a lot more than usual. It's definitely one to try if your lashes need a deep conditioning treatment and after a few weeks of use, I saw some new growth. However, if you already have pretty full lashes but need some length, you may want to use it in conjunction with the best lengthening mascaras to get the desired effect."
6. The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum

The Ordinary not only makes some of the best cleansers and best face moisturizers, but, these days, one of the best eyelash growth serums too. This budget-friendly serum is suitable for all skin types and is water-based, so the risk of irritation is very low. It is targeted at lash and brow density as opposed to dramatic lengthening, so this is another great pick if you're after a fuller and healthier look. With a range of active ingredients, four peptide complexes, and a series of natural extracts, you get a lot for your money.
Our tester, Ella, said:
"I love The Ordinary products so I couldn't wait to try this. After several weeks of testing, I'm impressed. It is an extremely lightweight formula that is quickly and easily applied to the lash line and eyebrows, with no heavy or greasy feeling afterward. I have very sensitive eyes but this didn't irritate or itch, which is something that's important to me. My lash health and density have definitely improved with continued use, but I can't say that I've noticed huge amounts of growth happening. However, I think with more time my lashes will get there. Considering the price tag, this is well worth trying out."
7. Sweed Lashes Pro Eyelash Growth Serum

The conditioning pumpkin seed extract in Sweed's lash serum is very effective on dry, thin lashes that need some TLC. If you're an avid lash extension wearer, try giving lashes a break and applying this for a few weeks instead to keep your hair healthy and nourished. It is a pricier option but the vegan, cruelty-free ingredients mean you can buy with ethical confidence.
Our tester, Charlotte, said:
"I have used a few different eyelash growth serums over the years and I love the natural ingredients of this Sweed option. My favorite thing about it is the superfine brush that applies the products beautifully in one easy swoop. It also didn't cause me any irritation, perhaps thanks to the vegan ingredients. I didn't notice as much of an instant change with this serum as I did with others like RevitaLash, however, it has done a great job of keeping my lashes healthy and conditioned whilst adding shine over the first few weeks of use. I think this is one that may take a few more weeks to show proper results, but so far so good."
8. Shiseido Full Lash Serum

A mid-range option, this lash serum can actually work on brows as well as eyelashes. Ingredients like arginine and jujuba fruit extract condition and strengthen the lashes and do a fabulous job of making them look fuller. The drawback (or plus, for some) is the doe foot applicator. It may not be the most convenient way of applying lash serum as the brand recommends wiping the wand for hygiene after use, however, our tester was impressed by it.
Our tester, Amber, said:
"The first thing I noticed when testing this lash serum was the doe foot applicator, which I expected to hate. However, after a couple of uses, I really came around to it. It meant that I didn't apply too much product and my lids weren't left feeling sticky or heavy like they have with some other serums. It didn't cause any irritation and was comfortable to wear day or night, which is always a plus when adding new products to my skincare night routine. After several uses, I can say that my lashes are definitely fuller and shinier, but I think it may take another few weeks to see significant new length develop."
9. Rimmel Wonder’Care Lash Serum

The formula of this Rimmel eyelash growth serum contains a lovely blend of peptides, proteins, vitamins, bamboo extract and castor oil for eyelash growth which does nourish the lashes. It is not the most high-tech eyelash growth serum on offer, but it is well worth the bargain price tag. Easy to apply and packed full of nourishing ingredients to keep lashes healthy, you can't really go wrong.
Our beauty writer, Amelia Yeomans, said:
"I loved using this lash serum due to the consistency and packaging. It is slightly thicker than other serums I've tried, but this gave a truly nourishing feel, which I loved. The soft, fine brush makes for precise application and it sank in almost instantly. As this eyelash serum is so lightweight and dries quickly, it's great for those that wear lash extensions religiously but want to keep their natural lashes in good condition. If you are already fairly happy with your lashes but want a product to use as a pampering step to keep your lash health in check, I highly recommend this budget pick."
10. Olaplex Lashbond Building Serum

From the best hair masks to the best vegan shampoo and conditioner, Olaplex knows how to make a powerful product. But can the newly launched lash serum live up to the brand hype? Formulated with the brand's peptide complex and bond-building technology, you can expect longer and more lifted lashes that look thicker and more hydrated with consistent use.
Our beauty writer, Amelia Yeomans, said:
"I had very high hopes for this lash serum as I love Olaplex products. After about a month of testing, I can say that my lashes are definitely healthier and fuller, however, I haven't seen much progress in terms of lengthening just yet. I think this is a product that will need a bit more time to work its magic, as I do have pretty short and stubborn lashes that need some TLC. Considering how well it has done at making my lashes denser and more hydrated in just a few weeks, I'm confident that I'll see even more results the more I use this. The only downfall for me is that it does leave a slight residue on my lids that is noticeable, but not uncomfortable or irritating, so it is easy to look past."
11. RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum

The clue is in the name with this one - RapidLash works quickly to rebuild lashes in need of some extra care. If your lashes are seemingly beyond repair, this is the serum to go for. Its innovative Hexatein 1 Complex contains a mix of lash-boosting peptides and proteins that work together to restore healthy lash growth, all at a reasonable price.
Our tester, Ella, said:
"This is the best eyelash growth serum if you want longer lashes above all else. After using it consistently for several weeks, my lashes are definitely longer and falling out a lot less, but not much thicker or denser. However, for my needs, this is perfect. If you already have enough lashes but just want to work on length, this is a fantastic option. Unfortunately, this serum did irritate my eyes, which seems to be a fairly common reaction to RapidLash from those with sensitive eyes. After the first time this happened, I continued using the product but applied less of it, which did stop the irritation so I could continue using it. But for those with extra sensitive eyes, it may be best to avoid."
How do eyelash growth serums work?
All eyelash serums work by nourishing the roots of the lashes with active ingredients like peptides, Vitamin E, castor oil, or hyaluronic acid to support the growth cycle. “It takes three stages for your eyelashes to essentially replenish in their hair cycle: anagen-growth phase; catagen-transition phase and telogen-resting phase," explains Ferrara.
"During the anagen phase (lasting 30-45 days) only 40% of your upper lashes and 15% of your lower lashes are growing at any one time. It can take four to eight weeks to fully replace an eyelash. Lash pigment and follicle shrinkage happen in the catagen phase, and the lash sits in the telogen phase for over 100 days before the lash falls out and a new one is replaced,” she says. A powerful eyelash growth serum should support the lashes within the anagen phase to encourage growth and prevent shedding. But, you won’t be able to see a change overnight, as average eyelash growth cycles are around three months.
How long do eyelash growth serums take to work?
“There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question,” says Ferrara. “Some people see results in terms of improved lash condition and overall lash shine and flexibility in as little as a week, but for the full effect, it’s usually longer. Generally, we say three to six weeks to capitalize on the anagen phase of the hair cycle.”
To see results as soon as possible, Ferrara suggests applying your eyelash serum on a regular basis. “It’s important to apply the serum once a day for at least three months to achieve full lash benefits,” she says. As with much of our hair and skincare routine, consistency is everything. Most of these products are meant to be applied at night but skipping a few days in between applications can lessen their effectiveness.
How to choose the best eyelash growth serum for you
All of the eyelash growth serums included in this guide have been tested thoroughly and should provide stellar results. However, if you want to find the absolute perfect one for you, you'll want to look out for a few things:
- Brush: Consider what sort of applicator brush you're after, as there are several different types out there. If you'll be using a product for your lashes and brows, you may want a thicker and sturdier brush for quick application on a larger surface area. If you only want to use a small amount of product on your lashes each day, go for a soft and thin brush.
- Sensitivity: If you have sensitive eyes, you need to be extra careful with the eyelash growth serum you choose. Some may cause irritation on certain skin types or eyes, so it pays to look into ingredients and check reviews to see if users report sensitivity issues before purchasing.
- Price point: It is tricky to find an incredible eyelash serum for a budget price, but there are options across the spectrum to suit most. Consider how much you're willing to spend and shop accordingly. However, be aware that you really do get what you pay for, and the best eyelash growth serums are slightly pricey - but they really do deliver.
