Airbnb is offering a magical stay at Harry Houdini's LA estate
You can now spend the night in one of the most famous illusionists homes in the world
No, you’re not seeing things—you actually spend the night in the famous Harry Houdini’s estate in Los Angeles, California. As an illusionist, Houdini was full of tricks made to wow audiences globally, and his home is no different.
Airbnb is constantly adding to its collection of unique stays from a one-night stay surrounded by volcanoes, to now, a stay at The Houdini Estate. Though the home-share platform’s party-ban has been extended, that doesn’t mean that you and a select group of people can’t have a magical experience.
This historical home sits on five acres of property for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of L.A. Surrounded by trees, romantic gardens, plentiful shady spots, hiking trails, and a natural three-story waterfall on the property, this just sounds like the ultimate retreat.
Built in the 1900s, the spacious home comes complete with four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, three fireplaces throughout the home, a barbecue patio, a jacuzzi and heated pool, an open-plan kitchen, Wi-Fi, and satellite TV. You’ll also be treated to some of the original architectural designs from when the home was first built.
It also wouldn’t be a true Houdini home without a little mystery put into it. If you’re feeling adventurous, you and your guests can look around for the estate's natural caves and hidden tunnels. For aspiring daredevils, you’ll also have the opportunity to get up close to one of the water tanks Houdini used to practice one of his famous stunts. It’s also said that Houdini’s wife used the home to host a party with close to 500 magicians in attendance (so space shouldn’t be too much of a worry).
Rates for the estate change depending on weekday and time of year you are looking to book. Stays Monday-Thursday start at around $1,750 a night, while weekends go for up to $3,000 per night. There’s also a 10% increase in price during the holiday seasons along with cleaning, taxes, and service fees. If you’re ready to ditch the vanlife travel trend to try a mysterious night at Houdini’s own estate, then make sure to book your stay on Airbnb.
