Sweet potato mash couldn't be easier to make yourself, so there's no need to buy it from the shops. Sweet potatoescontain lots of lovely vitamins and minerals, as well as being high in fibre. Some of their biggest claims to fame are there good levels of vitamin A, vitamin C and manganese.
We've flavoured our sweet potato mash with a careful balance of sweet and sour, combining punchy wholegrain mustard and sweet maple syrup. If you prefer you can go more traditional with your sweet potato mash and flavour it with butter, milk and salt. Or why not try it with some garlic or cheese stirred through if for something a little different? However you choose to serve your sweet potato mash it's sure to be delicious.
Method
- Steam potatoes for 15 to 20 minutes until tender. Drain and pour in the butter. Mash or whizz smooth, then add syrup and mustard.

- 1.8kg (4lb) sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks
- 2tbsp butter, melted
- 4tbsp maple syrup
- 1tbsp wholegrain mustard
Top Tip for making Sweet Potato Mash
or better results, bake the potatoes for 40 minutes and leave to cool. Add flavourings and whizz smooth. Prepare ahead so it doesn’t take up oven space, then heat in the microwave.
