Prince Philip passed away peacefully aged 99 on Friday morning, and minutes after the news emerged the royal family sent out a united message of mourning.
The social media accounts of the royals – including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Kensington Royal account, the Queen's Royal Family account and Prince Charles’ Clarence House account – all turned black and white as a sign of mourning.
Tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh – who was loved for his humour – have also started pouring in.

Prince William and Kate shared a stunning black and white photograph of William's grandfather alongside a touching tribute.
They wrote, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
The Duke of Edinburgh’s passing comes just two months before he was set to celebrate his 100th birthday.

But, the Queen's husband had been in poor health in recent weeks and spent a month in hospital after undergoing heart surgery.
The Queen will pause royal duties for eight days of mourning following his death.
