- Buckingham Palace will not have the power to stop Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from 'freelancing' in the UK during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, a royal expert has revealed.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could embark on their own independent projects during their trip to the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations next month, a royal expert has revealed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to fly into London for the extended June Bank Holiday Weekend with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, marking the couple's first joint return to Britain since emigrating to North America in early 2020. The exciting visit will also see one-year-old Lilibet, the eleventh addition to the Queen's great-grandchildren, finally meet the 96-year-old monarch in person on the 70th anniversary of her reign.
Having renounced their roles as senior royals, however, the extent of the Sussexes' involvement in the nationwide festivities between June 2 and 5 remains unclear.
It's understood that they'll stay in their former home of Frogmore Cottage near Windsor Castle, but their duties (if any) during the four-day-long event have not been outlined. Buckingham Palace has confirmed, however, that, "after careful consideration", Harry and Meghan will not appear on the Jubilee balcony for the Trooping the Color on June 2.
It has now been revealed that the Sussex couple, who were stripped of their royal patronages by the Queen earlier this year, may decide to go rogue during their overseas visit. No longer working members of the Royal Family, the couple are essentially free to do as they please when they return.
"They've [The Firm] got a degree of control over Harry and Meghan while they're in the confines of Buckingham Palace and the confines of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations official, but of course, there's nothing to stop the couple freelancing and doing their own thing while they're in the UK," Camilla Tominey, associate editor for the Telegraph revealed on Royal Insight.

There's a risk that any independent projects carried out by Harry and Meghan on British soil could cause significant fanfare - something that will likely distract from the Queen on her historic milestone.
"If they're going to be seen out and about with their children, that's going to generate publicity," Camilla said, before adding that the "main priority" for all royals is to avoid stealing the spotlight from the Queen.
"Regardless of who's in Camp Sussex or Cambridge or no camp at all, nobody is going to ingratiate themselves to the public, both in the UK or overseas, if they overshadow our 96-year-old monarch on the most momentous and historic weekend of her reign."
