The Queen has shown support to an important charity organisation with a heartfelt post and throwback photo paying tribute to the elderly generation during the festive season.

The Queen has shared a sweet image of herself as a child, alongside her mother as the pair supported a charity that has been close to Her Majesty's heart since she was a child.

The caption of the post says, "Friends of the Elderly has had Royal support since its early days caring for WWI veterans. Her Majesty The Queen is currently Patron, and Princess Alexandra is President."

"The charity began in 1905 as ‘Friends of the Poor’ and went on to serve ‘Penny Dinners’ to WWI veterans and help elderly people in a London devastated by bombing during WWII. Today, it provides daycare and care home support to older people as well as grants and specialist dementia care for those who need it."

This supportive post was complimented by a selection of images of the Queen and other members of the royal family working with the charity over the past 90 years.

The first image showed the Queen when she was still a Princess in the 1930s as she and her mother met a veteran at an event organized by the charity.

In the image, a very young Princess Elizabeth is photographed shaking hands with a disabled war veteran as the Queen mother looks on proudly.

Fans loved the image of Her Majesty and many said that the young Queen bore a striking resemblance to one of her 12 great-grandchildren.

"I see Princess Charlotte in the first pic! 🥰," said one fan. This isn't the first time the Queen has been compared to Princess Charlotte as many saw a similarity between the two from Cambridge's family Christmas card.

Fans also complimented the Queen for her timely decision to promote this festive charity. "Perfect decision by the Queen in this season," said one fan.

"This is true Service. 😍😍😍," said another who noted the longevity of the Queen's support over the past 90 years.

Other images in the post showed the Queen in more recent years fulfilling her role as patron and meeting elderly people at a royal function in 2009.

The royal family has now also revealed that their followers can also join them in spreading Christmas cheer by emailing the elderly people the charity supports. the royals provided a link so that fans can send the service users a Christmas message to help celebrate the festive season.
