Prince William has joined devastated royal fans as he shared a message of heartbreak and pride following England’s defeat to Italy in Euros 2020 final.

Prince William has taken to social media to share a message of heartbreak and pride after England lost to Italy in the Euro 2020 final. This marked the first time England’s national team had made a major final in 55 years and fans, including the future king, were eager to see the team’s hard work result in a victory. Both Prince William and the Queen sent good wishes to the England football team ahead of the final match. Whilst many Prince George fans were convinced that he could help England win the Euros as the team’s “lucky charm”.

Sadly, whilst Prince George did make an appearance alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the final, it was Italy’s team that they saw triumph. Now Prince William, who is the President of the Football Association, has expressed his heartbreak at the result and pride at the England team’s performance.

‘Heartbreaking. Congratulations @Azzurri on a great victory. @England, you’ve all come so far, but sadly this time it wasn’t our day. You can all hold your heads high, and be so proud of yourselves — I know there’s more to come. W’, he powerfully declared.

Despite his disappointment, the senior royal graciously congratulated Italy on their win, before showing his appreciation for the England team’s valiant efforts. And he wasn’t alone in his heartbreak, as fellow football fans shared their own sadness at the recent loss.

‘Congrats Italy, losing in penalties is really heartbreaking. Can go either way’, one person wrote.

Whilst another reflected on the Duke’s son's reaction, writing: ‘I hope Prince George is ok. My son is devastated’.

‘Great message, Your Royal Highness! The team was amazing and you guys should be proud when I saw you, the Duchess and Prince George after the game, my heart broke.. I hope you are all ok! We love you’, someone else shared.

Echoing Prince William's message, many fans offered their support to England's talented players, with one fan agreeing whole-heartedly, ‘Absolutely x they were amazing and we’ll never forget what they’ve achieved’.

Someone else added, ‘Proud of the team. You made history to get this far.’

‘Such a huge deal to get to where they did. The responsibility to face that goal enormous.  huge respect for those young men’, another person declared.

England's defeat came after Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince George previously watched the team play their way to victory over Germany in the earlier stages. Delighting royal fans at this recent appearance, Prince George's Euros outfit left some baffled

Once again, the young royal wore a smart suit and tie to Wembley Stadium as he cheered England on in the final. Despite the disappointment they and fellow football fans likely feel at the result, it's wonderful to see Prince William sharing the nation's pride at the England team's Euros performance.
