Prince Harry was reportedly left angry after discovering that his father Prince Charles was "implicated" in the decision to recall him to the UK during his time in the army.
The Duke of Sussex left the armed forces in 2015 after ten years, during which he rose to the rank of Captain and undertook two tours of Afghanistan. Though as such a prominent member of the Royal Family, his 2007 deployment is said to have kept a secret and he had to return to the UK early after his cover was blown by the media.
Now it’s been claimed by royal commentators in the Channel 5 documentary, Charles & Harry: Father and Son Divided, that this recall affected Harry and Charles' relationship.
The documentary’s narrator stated, "A furious Harry seemed to hold the press responsible for his mother's death and for the curb on his service career. Then he discovered that his father was involved too."
While royal author Tom Quinn alleged, "Unfortunate for Charles that he was implicated in the decision to recall his son. It was another example of Charles the Father doing something that Harry the Son didn't like.”
This sentiment was echoed by journalist Bidisha, who speculated about Harry’s perception of the events surrounding his return, "He must have been asking, 'Are my father and the world's media actually working together?'

"The next one in a long line of emotional betrayals that have come from the people who are really the closest to him.”
The narrator went on to claim that Charles was motivated by a "desire to protect his son", something relationship psychologist Anjula Mutanda shed more light on.
"As a parent, he would have been in protection mode. As the son, [Harry] would have been saying 'Trust me, I know what I'm doing, don't interfere'”, she explained.
"Typically that would have brought its own internal tensions between father and the son. Their idea of the right thing is very different."
Prince Harry and Prince Charles' relationship has been under the spotlight in recent months after Harry and Meghan's bombshell Oprah interview. During the special, Harry claimed that his father stopped taking his calls after he revealed his and Meghan's intention to step back as senior members of the Royal Family. He also described Charles and Prince William as “trapped” in the institution.
The Duke of Sussex then discussed their relationship further on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. Here he described “genetic pain and suffering” being “passed on” and suggested Charles “treated [him] the way he was treated”.
This has led to Prince Charles being questioned over Prince Harry’s comments on the Royal Family. Though despite the rumors of tension, Harry did seem hopeful in his Oprah interview that they could grow close once more.
"I will always love him, but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened. And I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship”, he declared.
