Kristen Stewart gave royal fans a major dose of déjà vu yesterday, posing with Princess Diana’s stunning engagement ring in a promo photo for her upcoming film. The Twilight actor will play the late Princess of Wales in the highly anticipated Spencer, which is scheduled for release in fall 2021.
Dressed in a tartan blazer and cream turtleneck, Kristen stares directly into the camera as she rests her cheek on her bejeweled hand. The genuine version of the replica now belongs to Kate Middleton, who acquired the iconic sapphire and diamond ring when Prince William proposed to her in 2010.

Prince Harry had originally been the recipient of the keepsake after Princess Diana’s death but decided to pass it on to his older brother when he began dating Kate. The Duke of Sussex made sure to keep his mother’s memory alive in his proposal to Meghan Markle however, using two stones from Diana’s private collection to design his fiancée’s engagement ring.
Spencer, which is directed by Oscar-award winner Pablo Larraín, invites viewers into Lady Diana’s inner world over the course of one Christmas weekend in 1991. Set at the monarchial residence at Sandringham Estate, the film follows the princess in her final days in the royal family before she makes the heartbreaking decision to divorce Prince Charles.
Many Princess Diana fans were initially skeptical about Kristen's ability to embody the beloved icon, raising concerns that the American actor was just too edgy for the role. However, public opinion shifted when the first Spencer promo photo was released in January.

Decked out in a netted black hat, collared red coat, and soft blonde tresses, Kristen couldn't have looked more different from her Bella Swan days. The chameleon actor has since called filming a 'meditative' experience, revealing that she is committed to portraying the complexities of Diana's character.
