Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, broke her social media silence with a new Instagram post likely taken in Switzerland.

In her first post since Prince Andrew’s BBC Newsnight interview, the Duchess revealed she was hoping for strength and wisdom for the year ahead.

Her daughter Princess Eugenie has also not posted since November, with her last update showing a throwback photo of her riding a horse.

Alongside two stunning photos of snowy mountains, Sarah wrote, ‘As the sun goes down on 2019, I look to the mountains for strength and wisdom to guide us all into a magical and enlightened road ahead...Happy New Year for 2020. So much love 💓 in abundance.’

Whilst the Duchess didn’t reveal where these photos had been taken, it’s likely that it was during an annual break to Verbier, Swizerland, where she owns a ski lodge alongside the Duke of York.

Despite the fact Sarah didn’t spend Christmas with her daughters, it’s thought they had accompanied her to the ski lodge alongside their partners Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank.

The Duchess of York received many well wishes on her Instagram update, wishing her happiness for the year ahead.

Florist and perfumer Eric Buterbaugh wrote, ‘Happy New Year my friend ♥️♥️’

TV producer Ally Hilfiger added, ‘Love you Sarah. 2020 has light and Love in abundance 🙌🏼🌈💖💖’

And TV and radio presenter Lizzie Cundy added, ‘Happy new year Sarah 💗’
