The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined Sir David Attenborough today as they stepped out to the naming ceremony of a polar research ship named after the famous naturalist.

The royal pair were out to attend the naming ceremony forBritish polar research ship that will officially be known asRSS Sir David Attenborough.
The sea liner is owned by the Environment Research Council (NERC) and operated by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), and will explore the Arctic and Antarctica for the next 25 to 30 years.
During the special event in Birkenhead, Merseyside, the pair were given a tour of the vessel and also met with apprentice engineers who worked on the building process.

Catherine was also selected to honour the tradition of smashing a bottle of champagne onto the boat.
Duchess Catherine stunned as she appeared at the royal engagement in a well-loved Alexander McQueen coat- an item she has publicly worn several times over the years.
Teaming the chic baby blue piece with a pair of simple navy court heels and a stylish Asprey clutch bag.
The Duchess previously wore the elegant belted and collared coat back in 2016 as she celebrated the Air Cadet's 75th Anniversary at the RAF church of St Clement Danes.
Prior to that, the mum-of-three opted for the gorgeous number when she visited the Blenheim museum with Prince William during the couple's royal tour of New Zealand in 2014.
She also stepped out in an almost identical Mulberry version of the ensemble for a royal visit to Belfast in 2017, sporting the same style of belt and buttons, this time featuring a classic shoulder cape aspect.
