Yellowstone season 5: the release date confirmed and what you can expect when the hit drama returns
Anyone anxiously waiting for Yellowstone season 5 finally has a date to look forward to as they prepare for the Dutton family’s return…
Yellowstone season 5 is now just months away and with a premiere date to look forward to, many fans will likely be wondering what lies in store.
Although sadly Yellowstone didn’t win a SAG Award and lost out to Succession earlier this year, that hasn’t stopped this modern-western show from being beloved by fans everywhere. Following the Dutton family lead by patriarch John who own the largest contiguous ranch in the US, the show now has several spin-offs in the works including 1883. And whilst some wonder if 1883 is based on a true story, others will be eagerly awaiting Yellowstone’s fifth season. Bordered by the fictional Broken Rock reservation, the Yellowstone/Dutton Ranch is being eyed up by developers and the Duttons aren’t giving up the land easily.
But when will Yellowstone season 5 air, which cast members will be back in action and how can you watch all the previous seasons?
*Warning: spoilers ahead!*
When will season 5 of Yellowstone air?
With the recent announcement that Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford are teaming up for the highly-anticipated Yellowstone prequel, 1932, there’ll no doubt be many viewers out there once again asking themselves the ultimate question - when will season 5 of Yellowstone air?
Now, just a few weeks after it was confirmed that there would indeed be a Yellowstone season 5 (in case die-hard fans were in any doubt!) its premiere date has been announced as Sunday, November 13th, 2022.

“I don’t want to wish away summer! But? 🤷🏼♀️ can’t wait”, one person wrote eagerly, reflecting on the agonizing wait ahead for those wishing season 5 would come a lot sooner.
“Yes!!!! I'm so stoked! November can't come any sooner. Let's go?👏🔥🔥”, someone else agreed.
Whilst someone else had the perfect plan now that the countdown has begun, responding “Yayyyyyyyyy I'll just watch seasons 1 thru 4 again for the 100 💯 x lol”.
“I can’t wait to watch Season 5 mainly more of Beth🙃!” another fan wrote. “I still miss when it always aired on June. It was weird watching the latest Season 4 on a November and I guess Yellowstone is officially a November tv series now *”.
Prior to Yellowstone season 4, all previous installments of the modern-day western drama were released sometime in June. However, whilst season 5 deviates once again from the old pattern, time really flies when you’re re-watching your favorite episodes. November's premiere date will be here before we know it.
And according to Collider, Yellowstone season 5 will reportedly consist of 14 episodes rather than the 10 we’ve seen in recent seasons, and is said to be split into two parts. This would certainly give the hit Paramount show plenty of scope to introduce massive storylines and even potential new characters for fans to fall in love with.
Which Yellowstone cast members are back for season 5?
From the Downton Abbey: A New Era cast to the excitement over which The Last Kingdom cast members could be back for the movie, no matter the genre, the stars are key and Yellowstone season 5 is no exception. The Yellowstone cast has been led from the very beginning by Kevin Costner as Dutton family patriarch John. And it seems like he is very likely to be back for the new season.
As revealed by Esquire, Kevin’s fellow Yellowstone cast member Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) explained, “For us as actors, and I think I can speak for everybody... we come together. This is now going into our fifth year."
The publication then reported that Cole referenced Kevin, Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), West Bentley (Jamie Dutton) and Gil Birmingham (Chief Thomas Rainwater) as well. This seems to suggest that all of these actors will also be part of season 5, as does the way the season 4 finale left their characters.
It’s also understood that ranch hand Teeter played by Jennifer Landon and chief vet technician Emily played by Kathryn Kelly have been promoted to series regular status for Yellowstone season 5. But not everyone will be back for Yellowstone season 5 after the Yellowstone season 4 finale saw Jamie Dutton’s biological father Garrett Randall (Will Patton) murdered.
Therefore, unless Garrett appears in some kind of flashback it’s highly unlikely that viewers will see Will back in action for season 5.
What to expect from Yellowstone season 5
Unfortunately for fans, the plot of Yellowstone season 5 hasn’t been officially confirmed. But that doesn’t mean that the season 4 finale doesn’t give more than a few hints at what could be waiting for viewers in November.
Throughout the season the Duttons had been attempting to discover who had ordered the attack on them that took place in *that* unforgettable Yellowstone season 3 moment. It was later discovered to be Jamie Dutton’s biological father (and the murderer of his biological mother) Garrett Randall and Beth isn’t having any of Jamie’s attempts not to bring Garrett to justice.
Revealing what she knows, she gives Jamie one option and he takes it before she makes it clear that with this huge secret hanging over him, he is in her power. And Beth’s Yellowstone season 4 journey didn’t stop there as she married Rip Wheeler.
It’s not known exactly where the next season could take our favorite characters, but with Jamie and Beth’s secret looming large, it’s likely this will come into play in some way. It’s likely also that the battle between Beth’s former employers Market Equities and the Dutton family for the land will be ongoing.
Meanwhile, John Dutton’s decision to run for governor could also be continued despite this being Jamie’s dream. And who could forget Kayce Dutton’s vision? He might have warned his wife Monica that what he’s seen will be the “end of them”, but the viewers are still none the wiser about what exactly the Dutton brother has seen that is quite that bad. It could be revealed at some point in season 5 or this could potentially be kept as a recurring secret instead.
How to watch Yellowstone seasons 1-4
With six months to go until Yellowstone season 5 there’s never been a better time to catch up on all the action surrounding the Montana-based Dutton family in seasons 1-4. For any US-based fans wondering how to watch Yellowstone season 3 or Yellowstone season 4 in particular as the most recent seasons, they’re currently available to stream on Peacock, as are Yellowstone seasons 1 and 2.
For UK viewers the first two seasons can be bought and watched via Amazon Prime Video. Paramount Plus will be coming to the UK from June 22nd and it’s said that Yellowstone seasons 1-4 are coming with it. It’s understood that a subscription to Paramount Plus will cost £6.99 a month and that Sky Cinema subscribers will have this included in their plan cost-free.
However, if you’re on vacation when you want to be catching up on Yellowstone then sadly you won't be able to watch the show as you normally would at home, thanks to regional restrictions.
