Aorta meaning
Many players struggled with this challenge because they were simply unfamiliar with this term. The word is not particularly common in everyday life, and appears more in medical documentaries and television shows. So what does the word aorta mean?
The Oxford dictionary defines aorta as a noun that means, 'the main artery of the body, supplying oxygenated blood to the circulatory system. In humans, it passes over the heart from the left ventricle and runs down in front of the backbone.' The aorta is the largest artery in the body and helps the heart pump blood from the left ventricle to the aortic valve.
While many people may have heard of it, it most certainly is not a word that appears in everyday language - unless you're in the medical community. So not to worry if you struggled with this one!
