The actress is making an unexpected exit after four seasons on the medical drama series
Fans of The Resident, you may want to grab the nearest box of tissues for this news—Emily VanCamp is officially exiting the Fox medical drama.
Much like Grey's Anatomy, the series brings all the drama and has no problem at all shaking things up for the main characters. For example, news that Meredith on Grey's Anatomy may have a major career change—which is almost as shocking as The Resident losing its actual main character.
The hit show is filled with life's ups and downs like romance, career stress, and shocking twists—with Emily's character usually at the center of it.
Emily stars alongside Matt Czuchry, who stars as the male lead, and her love interest Conrad Hawkins). After four seasons though Emily, who plays the nurse practitioner and female lead Nicolette "Nic" Nevin, is hanging up her scrubs for good.
The actress apparently asked to be released from the show at the end of season 4, according to Deadline. There was an effort to bring her back for another season which she was open to but, according to reports, it didn't work out. Emily has yet to release a statement with more details on why she decided to exit the show and Fox has remained quiet about her departure thus far.
The news comes as a shock for most fans who were excited to finally see Nic and Conrad tie the knot in the last season's finale. The episode also showed the couple welcoming their first child together, a daughter, Georgiana Grace Hawkins who was named after both characters' late mothers.
So how will Nic leave The Resident? The latest trailer gives us a sneak peek and things don't look good for your favorite Chastain Park Memorial Hospital couple. From the ominous trailer, it appears that tragedy strikes as the police appear at Conrad's door—with Nic nowhere to be seen. Even the creators have hinted that fans should brace themselves for "certain changes" coming to the hospital.
