Is Elton John the star’s real name?
Disappointing as this news may be, Elton John hasn't always been the moniker of the British superstar. His parents, Stanley Dwight and Sheila Eileen Harris, named him Reginald Kenneth Dwight shortly after his birth in March 1947. The heavily syllabic name didn't bode well with Elton, however, who has previously admitted that it carried many 'unhappy memories for him'.
He legally changed it to Elton Hercules John in 1972, revealing later that the switch gave him a 'new lease of life.'
"I didn't particularly like being Reg Dwight. It had too many unhappy memories," he said in a 1987 interview.
