How often is a Supermoon? What causes these stunning lunations and are they rare?
Wondering how often is a Supermoon? These incredible Full Moons never cease to amaze when they fill the night sky - so are they rare?
You may wonder how often is a Supermoon and what causes these incredible Full Moons, which feel within touching distance.
Any fan of the lunar cycle knows that of the Moon calendar 2022, the Supermoons are the ones to watch. The July Full Moon 2022, also called the Buck Moon 2022, is the largest Supermoon of the year - but it's not the only one.
You may want to flex your manifestation muscles with some Full Moon rituals, as Supermoons are a prime opportunity to manifest your truest desires
The July Full Moon also orbits nearer to planet Earth than any other in 2022 - which explains how huge it looks, hanging low in the night sky.
Plonked in among all the astrological events 2022, like Mercury retrograde 2022 and more recently Neptune retrograde 2022 - Supermoons are an astrological and astronomical delight.
How often are Supermoons?
We all know that a Full Moon takes place on one occasion each lunar cycle, a period of 29.5 days - but how often is a Supermoon?
According to the Natural History Museum, there are only three or four Supermoons in a year. Interestingly, between 2020 and 2025, we will see four of these stunning lunations per annum.

Professor Sara Russell explains, "During a Supermoon, the Moon is at a stage where it is closest to Earth. This will typically last for two to five Full Moons, so that's why there are multiple Supermoons in a row. After that, the Moon goes into the more distant part of its orbit."

What do Supermoons mean in astrology?
In astrology, Supermoons are seen as an amplifier of the energy that the Full Moon it falls on has.
Say for example, the June Full Moon 2022, or the Strawberry Moon 2022 as it's also known, which was in the sign of Sagittarius. This means that Sagittarius energy to get things done is supercharged and by transforming our innermost thoughts, beliefs, hopes and dreams into outward experiences - we can make the changes we want in our lives manifest.
