How many children does Kate Winslet have and who is her actor daughter?
Everything you need to know about how many children Kate Winslet has - and the one that's following in her acting footsteps
Kate Winslet has always been open when it comes to her career, but she's kept her personal life relatively private.
What many people may not know is that the actor, who rose to fame after starring as Rose DeWitt Bukater in Titanic back in 1997, has been married and divorced twice. Kate, who recently revealed her all-time favourite role, has previously said, "No one really knows what has happened in my life. No one really knows why my first marriage didn't last; no one knows why my second didn't. And I'm proud of those silences."
So when it was revealed she would be starring alongside her 22-year-old daughter, Mia, in Channel 4's I Am Ruth, it's left many wondering, how many children does Kate Winslet have and who is her daughter?
How many children does Kate Winslet have?
Kate Winslet is a mum to three children. Her first child, a daughter named Mia Honey Threapleton who she shares with her first husband, Jim Threapleton, was born in 2000.
Her second child, who she shares with her second husband Sam Mendes, a boy named Joe Mendes, was born in 2003. And her youngest, a boy named Bear Blaze Winslet, who she shares with her current husband, Edward Abel Smith, was born in 2013.
After facing some unfair criticism about the fact her children have different fathers, Kate quite rightly said, "No one has a right to comment on anyone’s life or the choices I do or don’t make."
"It’s very easy to be judgmental until you know someone’s truth. People have no idea at all. It baffles me, truly, that you can publicly treat a person like that. It’s not very nice. I’m really sorry to the nation’s press that I fell in love and got pregnant; I do apologize if you deem that irresponsible.”

And opening up about motherhood and family life, Kate shared, "You have to carry on as a mother, no matter what, and that's what I've always done. My children have never seen me in a crumpled heap on the floor".
"I'm their mum, and I'm OK. But now I feel more anchored than ever before, and I feel that all of the experiences I've had in my life – all the good things that have arisen – will serve me really well."
Who is Kate Winslet's daughter?
Kate's only daughter, Mia, was born on 12 October 2000, making her 22 years old. She has followed in her mother's footsteps as an actor and has starred in A Little Chaos, I Am and Shadows.
Now, Mia stars alongside her famous mum in Channel 4's I Am Ruth, the latest in Dominic Savage’s women-led I Am anthology series. The feature length film explores the fractured relationship between Ruth, played by Kate, and her teenage daughter, Freya, played by Mia, whose mental health is becoming increasingly warped by her phone.
Speaking about Mia's acting career, Kate has referenced the fact that few people know that Mia is her daughter. "She has a different surname so she slipped under the radar," Kate explained. "And the people who cast her didn’t know she was my daughter, and that was important for her self-esteem, of course."
But talking about starring alongside her daughter in I Am Ruth, Kate said, "It was a really special experience… as a mother and daughter. I was given new things to respect and admire about my own child.”
"I wanted to cover areas of motherhood and being a mother that can sometimes be incredibly challenging and lonely."
She added, "Everything is improvised. There was no script... Every single word that came out of our mouths, we made up on the day. We didn’t want to shy away from the really extreme parts of what it can be like to be a parent raising a teenager, or to be a teenager experiencing those negative, dark thoughts.”
Kate even admitted that, at times, it got difficult for her to witness Mia act the part. She said, “There were moments when I would think, ‘My gosh, she’s doing it, she’s really doing it’ and I would want to hug her and sort of make it stop.”
