Netflix has just confirmed that there will be a second season of the hugely popular drama series, Bridgerton.

The Shonda Rhimes produced series, based on the Julia Quinn novels, has been a resounding success. Released on December 25, the series reached over 63 million households in the first three weeks after its release.

Frankly, we could not get enough. From the sex scenes that a study found to be the raunchiest on Netflix to the Regencycore fashion trend, we adored every ounce of the steamy period drama.

More from Woman & Home:

Netflix announced on Twitter, "Prepare for another social season! Bridgerton shall be back for Season 2!" They then posted a hilarious meme that pretty much all of us can relate to.

Members of the cast have taken to social media to share their delight that the show has been picked up for a second series. The show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, announced on Instagram, “More #bridgerton magic is coming soon.”

Nicola Coughlan also took to Twitter to announce, "Dearest Viewers, this author is proud to announce #Bridgerton Season Two, expect much scandal indeed!’ She also revealed in another tweet, 'I *may* have already been in costume fittings for Season Two and can guarantee you are absolutely not ready.'

The thirsty fan account The Duke’s Spoon also revealed in the news that there would be a second series, full of gorgeous content from the Duke of Hastings actor Rege-Jean Page. The Duke’s Spoon account stated, "Dearest Spooners, get ready for more delicious delights from the Duke as season 2 is a go."

So what can we expect from Bridgerton Season 2?

Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) revealed at the end of the series that she was the period drama’s gossip girl, Lady Whistledown.

That was a surprise twist to finish off the series and leaves fans with many questions about the upcoming season.

A major question fans are asking is, what will happen to the Featherington’s? Season one left them broke and in mourning as Mr. Featherington was killed after rigging a boxing match and losing all their cash. Whatever will become of his poor children? And his wife, I guess...

Similarly, will we see Marina Thompson (Ruby Barker) again? Marina Thompson left at the end of season one after getting engaged to the brother of the man she loved.

Her storyline was infuriating as we watched her desperation stamp on poor Pen’s dreams of romance with Colin Bridgerton. Hopefully, Marina will be back in the next series to add some drama, but it seems as if she may have left the ton forever with her new hubby, Sir Phillip Crane.

Another rather sweet cliffhanger was the name choice of Daphne and Simon’s baby. They agreed that they had traditions to uphold, so we can speculate that it will start with an A.

Readers of the book will already know this answer, but for now, it is fun to speculate that the baby may be called Archie — like another royal baby that we know.
