Fans are confused by Katie Holmes' latest outfit choice in the heat of New York

Katie Holmes wore a wool-cashmere "blanket" dress by Chloe in almost 100-degree temperature on the East Coast

Katie Holmes is a staple of New York's fashion scene, with fans constantly referencing her looks when dissecting the city's style trends.

However, this week, Katie, who recently shared her secret for glowing skin, left everyone a bit confused when stepping out in a cashmere-wool maxi dress with a matching shawl by Chloé in what is very much a heatwave while heading to the set of Good Morning America in New York.

To be clear: Katie looked wonderful, as she always does, but she certainly also seemed at odds with the nearly 100-degree Fahrenheit temperatures that folks on the East Coast have been dealing with all week long.

Alas, given her status as an influencer, we can’t help but predict that folks around the country will be copying Katie’s look for months on end.

The 43-year-old actor paired the striped knitted midi dress with an oversized shawl that she let drape off her shoulders, finishing off the look with Chloé's Nama sneakers, which are certainly not as affordable as the comfy sneakers that Katie’s been wearing on repeat

Knit from luxe cashmere and wool, this sleeveless maxi dress boasts a plunging scoop neckline and mixed colorblocked striping.

"I was hot just looking at her," one user commented on Twitter while dissecting Katie’s fashion choice.

“Katie basically wore a blanket while out," another noted.

The celebrity was scheduled to appear on Good Morning America to promote her latest film, Alone Together, which she wrote, stars in and directed.

The rom-com, set in 2020, follows two strangers (Katie as June and Jim Sturgess as Charlie) as they find themselves forced to cohabitate after they double book the same Airbnb at the start of the pandemic in upstate New York.

You can imagine how the film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year and also stars Melissa Leo and Zosia Mamet, ends.

Following her appearance on Good Morning America, Katie stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers, where she swapped her cashmere look for yet another inappropriate outfit weather-wise: a black turtleneck and a leather skirt.

We just have to ask: Katie, aren't you hot?
