Ewan McGregor describes divorce as 'a bomb going off' in his children's lives
Ewan McGregor's divorce came after images of him kissing Mary Elizabeth Winstead headlines - he addresses family fall out for first time
Ewan McGregor's divorce from Eve Mavrakis, after 22 years of marriage, hit headlines back in 2018. Although Hollywood breakups are often front-page-worthy, it was their daughter's reaction to her parents' divorce that really caused a stir.
Ewan McGregor married Mary Elizabeth Winstead in an intimate, outdoor ceremony, in April 2022. Although their big day is said to have been an absolute hoot, all hasn't been plain-sailing for the loved-up pair.
Images of the Star Wars actor kissing his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth in a restaurant in 2017 were published by media outlets - before his split from Eva had been revealed.
When the split was first announced, Ewan and Eve’s daughter, Clara, seemingly let her feelings be known, leaving a comment under a photo of the actress from the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscars party.
She wrote, “Most beautiful and talented woman on earth???’ [quoting the account’s caption] Oh man y’all are delusional. The girl is a piece of trash :) x.”
Years later, addressing his estrangement from his daughter, Ewan told GQ, “A divorce in a family is a bomb going off in everyone’s life – my children’s lives." The actor added, “the sort of healing of that is ongoing.”
Ewan, who's starring in a film that Clara conceived and developed alongside a screenwriter. You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder is inspired by her experience with substance abuse.

"There’s things that aren’t accurate, or are bent," he explained, "but they still reflect our estrangement for a while.”
Discussing the struggles faced when parenting somebody who’s in trouble he admitted, "it’s a f****** horribly difficult situation to be in." Adding, "you’re so scared of what can happen. You will do anything in the world to stop losing them.”
Despite Ewan's frank admission that he's still in the process of mending family rifts, it's clear that Clara hasn't allowed any difficulties in their relationship effect her bond with her baby brother Laurie.
