Elton John makes huge statement as he joins celebrity trend
Elton John made a shocking statement as he revealed that he will be joining a popular celebrity trend and boycotting a certain platform
Elton John made a shocking statement as he revealed that like many celebrities, he too will be boycotting Twitter.
In a statement on Twitter, Elton John announced that he would be boycotting the social media platform due to the amount of misinformation that has been allowed to spread on the app.
"All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world. I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked," said Elton John in his final tweet.
Elon Musk, the recent CEO of Twitter, responded to the tweet by saying, "I love your music. Hope you come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that you’re concerned about?" Elton did not respond to this message and instead, the Twitter CEO was left without an answer.

Like Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, and Gigi Hadid, Elton John is just the latest celebrity to boycott this platform. Many A-listers have turned their back on Twitter following the reports that the social media platform has changed policies and has become worse at policing misinformation.
Elon Musk's takeover of the company in October has signaled a number of controversial changes and mass redundancies. The new policies enforced under Musk suggest that accounts banned for hate speech will now be permitted to return to the platform.
Specifically, the platform's approach to dealing with tweets breaching former coronavirus rules has caused problems as Twitter stopped taking action against these perpetrators on Wednesday, November 23.

The fear from celebrities and other users of the platform is that people who should be banned will now be allowed to once again spread hate and misinformation. There will also be less stringent ways of punishing those who are spreading this type of information.
Although Elton John is not alone in his opinions, his recent announcement has divided people. Some fans were quick to support his decision but many other Twitter users who decided to stay on the platform were quick to shut him down and take offense to his message.
Despite this, the musician seems to have had overwhelming support in the past few weeks as fans were devastated when he announced that he is stepping back from his busy career.
The singer revealed that he will be headlining Glastonbury Festival 2023. This will mark Elton's final UK show of his farewell tour with, what Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis called, the 'mother of all send offs.'
Emily said in the announcement, "This will be the final UK show of Elton's last-ever tour, so we will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send offs. We are so very happy to finally bring the Rocket Man to Worthy Farm!".
