What symbolises a 60th birthday?
Former Head of Buying at Selfridges, and founder of Wizz&Co, Wizz Selvey, tells woman&home that "when people turn 60 they might be entering a new phase of their lifestyle, considering retirement, or reaching the point where simple pleasures themselves are a fantastic gift." Selvey suggests gifts like "self-care products, champagne, flowers, something to make the home more beautiful or to look forward to, like an experience-based gift."
She also suggests opting for nostalgic gifts, "perhaps old photos curated into an album, clothing in the style of the fashion when they were growing up, or something that will remind them of their childhood."
What is a traditional 60th birthday gift?
While there aren't specific symbols for most milestone birthdays, many people like to use the same symbols that are traditionally used as gifts to mark wedding anniversaries. Selvey notes that "traditionally, diamonds are linked to 60th birthdays and 60th anniversaries, but roses are also a lovely traditional option, if you're looking at a more restricted budget."
She adds, "if you can't stretch to, or don't want to gift diamonds, perhaps something inspired by or linked to the gorgeous stone might be appropriate; for example something with sparkle like a dazzling eyeshadow, or perhaps if they're a great at-home cook, a diamond knife sharpener - get creative!"
