Here’s why Bodyguard series 2 won’t be filmed this year - and it's for a very good reason

Bodyguard actor Richard Madden has told fans that the second season won’t be filmed in 2019.
The first series performed exceptionally well, becoming the UK’s biggest TV drama series, and even landed Richard a Golden Globe for his performance. But sadly, Bodyguard series 2 won’t be arriving this year.
Series creator Jed Mercurio previously confirmed that they’re in talks for a second round due to the immense popularity of the series. But Richard, who plays PC David Budd, has revealed it’s not coming any time soon.

"When we did the show, it was just going to be a one-off, it's own thing, because Jed was still writing the show as we were doing it," he explained, speaking about the initial plans for the show.
"But the show's engaged with so many people, and it's engaged with me, because I'm fascinated by that character. I'm fascinated by a man who's gone through so much, and I'm very keen to see what happens to him two years later.”
Richard added that he’s “very keen to work with Jed and work out how to move on the next bit of the story” and that they’ve “decided we're not going to rush it and shoot something this year."

“We're going to give it a breath and do it justice. If we come back to do another one, I want to do something as different as the first series was, and not just repeat the cycle, repeat the formula.”
Giving the success of the first season, it’s hardly surprising that everyone involved wants to take their time with Bodyguard series 2. They’ve got a tough act to follow, but we’re sure the wait will be worth it.
