Ben Shepherd shares an update on Kate Garraway’s husband as he remains ‘unresponsive’ in coma
Kate Garraway's Good Morning Britain co-host, Ben Shepherd, has given viewers an emotional update on her husband's 'deeply critical' battle with coronavirus.
Ben got choked up on GMB this morning when watching a clip of a woman who had suffered a ghastly battle with the deadly virus finally be reunited with her family.
The video no doubt hit a nerve with Ben as his good friend Kate's husband, Derek Draper, remains in intensive care after contracting the virus.
He said, "That moment when you can finally touch your loved one [after they’ve been] on a ventilator."
Ben's co-host Ranvir Singh went on to say it was an uncertain time for all families affected by coronavirus. "Families who have gone through this – it’s not a case of go in and you’ll get better soon..."
While Derek remains "unresponsive" in a coma in intensive care, Kate said she still has "hope" as she thanked the NHS workers once again for their tireless work on Thursday night.
Alongside a clip of her clapping for the carers, Kate penned, "So much to be grateful for tonight. Derek is still with us but what a battle it is. So grateful too for our amazing #nhs doing so much for Derek everyday - wonderful to see all the support for them & our key workers every Thursday.

"We can’t thank them enough can we ? So brave. Sending love to everyone during this ghastly time , particularly all those struggling for whatever reason- none of this is easy. Thank you so much for your messages - they mean so much to me. . Love and so much thanks from me and the whole family. X"
Alluding to Kate's Instagram post, Ranvir added, "It’s a dreadful time and I think she’s at home with two children, trying to keep going and it’s still a total unknown. But as she said, there’s still hope."
Derek was hospitalised with the deadly virus last month and remains in a "deeply critical" condition. But, Ben revealed, Kate is able to communicate with Derek while he's in a coma.
“She wanted to share that she’s been able to speak to Derek in the evenings in the coma," he said. “She’s been able to share music with him, to talk to him, to support him."
