Ant and Dec have just announced that after more than 30 years in the spotlight as ‘Ant and Dec,’ they will be rebranding themselves as ‘Dec and Ant.’

The comedic duo took to Instagram to announce that after more than three decades, they will be changing their name from ‘Ant and Dec’ to ‘Dec and Ant’.

On Twitter they said, ‘Some big news for you guys... after 30 long years together we’ve decided a change is needed, and so without further ado, we can announce we’ll now be officially known as Dec & Ant. It’s only fair on the little guy x #DecAndAnt'

But while the announcement may have prompted a ‘mini heart attack’ among followers, fans will be relieved to hear it was all a big joke – happy April Fool’s Day!

Despite this, fans still think that this announcement is adorable – even if it is a prank. One fan said, ‘Aprils fool day but still sweet.’ Another said, ‘Happy April Fools to you as well lads. Nice one.’

Declan Donnelly joked about the announcement and revealed that this name change is the only reason that he stuck with Ant for so long. He said, “We agreed back in the Byker days that he’d take the first 30 years and I’d take the rest. It’s really the only reason I’ve been hanging around with him for this long.”

Anthony McPartlin also commented on this change of name and said that he hopes that it will give him more time to focus on his unique hobbies. “I’ve had a good run, but it’s time to hand over the reins,” he said.

“Hopefully, this step back will give me more time to focus on some of my neglected hobbies… such as stamp collecting and medieval battle reenactments.”

Many fans were shocked and one suggested that this name change would throw the whole universe out of balance.

They commented, ‘The universe would be out of balance..... imagine.....Jerry and Tom, fork and knife, chips and fish, Juliet and Romeo, Stimpy and Ren – think I’ve covered the classics there.’
