Amy Adams reveals the surprising hobby Meryl Streep taught her to help ease her ‘energetic’ disposition on-set of Doubt
Amy Adams has shared how Meryl Streep calmed her down on the set of Doubt by teaching her an age-old pastime
Amy Adams has shared a surprising skill she picked up from Meryl Streep on set—and let's just say, we're all in stitches.
Speaking on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Friday, The Woman in the Window actress revealed that she learned to knit from her Doubt co-star in 2008, and has kept up the adorable hobby ever since.
"She did it in two parts, to sort of create a bonding experience between our characters but also probably she felt sorry for me because I tend to be energetic," Amy admitted to an awe-struck Kelly, who has never been shy about her Meryl Streep fandom.
"I'm sure she thought that was a great way for me to direct my energy instead of just...skipping around in my habit like Maria," she added. The experience left Amy with a lifelong appreciation for the crafty pastime, as well as a slightly mortified 11-year old daughter.

"I love yarn!" she exclaimed, before quickly joking, "That sounds weird. I do. And then I wonder why my daughter finds me embarrassing."
The Enchanted star instantly bonded with Kelly over textile matters, after the chat show host revealed she likes to quilt in her spare time. Unfortunately for the American Idol singer though, she didn't hone her craft with the help of a three-time Academy Award winner.

"Did you just say Meryl Streep taught you how to knit? I learned how to quilt on Youtube, Amy!" she laughed.
The hilarious chat led Amy to express her immense respect for Meryl, whom she often thinks of when faced with a challenge.
"I’m still completely enamored by her," she said. "I always say I carry around a little, like, Meryl in my heart. Whenever I’m stuck with a tough decision, I'm like, 'What would Meryl do in this situation?'"
This isn't the first time Amy has spoken fondly of the Hollywood heavyweight. At the 2017 Golden Globes, she lauded Meryl as a 'lovely, lovely mentor', after sharing warm memories of their time together on set. "Like a Mother Superior, she took me under her wing," she revealed.
