I spend a lot of time at home, and I'm a firm believer in investing in pyjamas, loungewear and slippers that make me look and feel as stylish as the items I wear when actually leaving the house.

I've been a smidge stubborn about which are the best slippers for years. Before now I was very much a devotee of open toe slippers like the Birkenstock Arizona Shearling Sandals, but as someone who is always cold I wanted to broaden my slipper horizons and find a style that offered unparalleled levels of warmth.

After trying a pair of Hush Puppies sandals last summer, woman&home's Fashion Writer Molly Smith recommended the brand to me, and I was immediately drawn to the suede Sloane Bootie Slippers, which feature stitch detailing around the top, as well as a real shearling lining.

Established in 1958, Hush Puppies has a long history and a really great reputation for comfort and durability, so I was excited to try them out.

I've been wearing these for several weeks now, and here are my honest thoughts.

Hush Puppies Sloane Bootie Slippers: Comfort & Support

Comfort really is key when it comes to slippers. I have a habit of buying shoes that look great until it comes to actually walking, but with slippers, how they feel is everything.

I should have worn a pedometer whilst testing these slippers - I've just moved house and I ran up and down stairs over and over again in the Hush Puppies Sloane bootie slippers. I haven't had a second of discomfort, and the memory foam comfort insole offers impressive cushioning. They're so sturdy, they honestly feel like outdoor boots, only super lightweight. They're a world away from the thin hard sole you get on some slippers.

The shearling lining creates quite a close fit so there really isn't room for rubbing or blisters, although I'm sure over time this will flatten a little. Hush Puppies recommend buying one size up, which I would agree with.

I personally don't find it a problem, but it's worth noting that they don't just slip on and off as easily as sandal styles. Due to the snug fit you do have to use a hand to pull on the heel, which might prove tricky for anyone with mobility issues.

Hush Puppies Sloane Bootie Slippers: Style

Style-wise I cannot fault these slippers. The embroidery around the ankle reminds me of the UGG Tasman slippers, but I really like that the design is that bit higher on the ankle.

In the photos I'm wearing mine with my favourite Spanx leggings, but they work really well with jeans, dresses and pyjamas too. Whilst there are some slippers you might want to ditch when visitors come to your home, you absolutely won't want to take these off.

Hush Puppies Sloane Bootie Slippers: Care & Cleaning

Suede will always take a bit more effort to clean than slippers you can just throw in the washing machine, and I have learned from experience to always use good suede spray soon after buying anything new.

You might think that without the weather element indoors, suede slippers would be entirely fine, but don't forget it's easy to spill food or drinks at home, and you might have children and pets running around. I find the black to be very practical and so far have had no problems. For tips on eliminating odours and removing marks, read our how to wash slippers guide.

Hush Puppies Sloane Bootie Slippers: Verdict

Price-wise, whilst £75 might still feel like an investment, these actually compare quite well amongst our compilation of the best slippers - they are competitively priced when compared to UGG, FitFlop or Birkenstock. And when you think about how much you actually wear your slippers (probably for several hours every day!), the cost per wear is pretty impressive.

They also really do feel premium - from arriving in a box to feeling sturdy enough to stand the test of time, you get what you pay for.

A good pair of slippers is one of life's little treats, and I had definitely underestimated how cosy a boot-style slipper can be. Having cloud-soft cushioning, as well as toasty feet and ankles far outweighs the slight inconvenience of putting them on.
