Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Low Top trainers: comfort & support

While the overall design of Converse shoes haven’t changed since the 1950s, one thing that has undergone tweaks is the inner sole of the shoe, which now features OrthoLite cushioning, making them one of the most comfortable trainers out there. With a flexible rubber sole, the shoes are lightweight and don’t take much breaking in, although some may find the rear heel panel and the area around the widest point of the foot somewhat tougher.

When it comes to sizing, Converse shoes tend to run true to size although the overall style is considered fairly narrow, which is worth noting as while the typical canvas style has some give, it may not offer as much stretch as you think. With this in mind, the company has also introduced a wide fit version for those who need a little more space in their shoes.

The shoes have a relatively flat inner sole with no moulding, so offer slightly less arch support than some other styles but overall, the springy sole means that they’re still a comfortable everyday option.

The upper of the classic design of this shoe is made from a breathable cotton canvas with additional eyelets for added ventilation meaning that your feet won’t break a sweat, even on the hottest of days. The durable fabric is lightweight and also machine washable, meaning that you can keep your trainers looking fresh and bright with just a quick spin!

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Low Top trainers: style

When it comes to trainers, there’s no design more classic and timeless than Converse Chuck Taylors. The style is available in a range of colours, fabrics and you can even customise a pair on the company’s website to make them truly your own.

The low profile design of Ox Cut version is very flattering as it finishes below the ankle bone and the standard canvas material version adds minimal bulk to your foot, giving a slick and streamlined look which makes them perfect finishing touch to any outfit.

So beloved are Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars with fashion insiders that several brands have collaborated on limited edition version including Rick Owens and Stüssy as well as Parisian fashion houses Comme Des Garçons and Maison Margela.

I love this design so much that when I got married one of my bridesmaids customised a pair for the day with stick-on diamantes to replicate the pattern from my Jenny Packham dress! Not only were they the most comfortable trainers to wear for a long day on my feet but they added a louche and laidback touch to my bridal outfit – perfect for a festival style wedding and proof that this design really does work with ANY dress.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Low Top trainers: cleaning & care

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance pair of white trainers, then Converse Chuck Taylors could not be easier to look after – the canvas style means that you can simply pop them in the washing machine for a quick refresh.

For the best results, a little prep goes a long way - first, give them a quick brush or wipe down to remove the worst of any grime such as mud. If you need to loosen any baked-on stains, try a dry old toothbrush on the hard-wearing fabric to lift out the worst and then remove the laces but don’t forget to add them to your wash too!

Depending on just how dirty they are, you may want to give everything a short pre-soak in a stain remover too before the next stage. When putting them in the washing machine, it’s best to place them into a mesh bag inside the very middle of your wash to prevent any damage to the drum.

After they’re washed, leave them somewhere warm to dry naturally – it’s best to stuff the toes with newspaper or something similar to help them retain their shape and stop the canvas fabric from shrinking.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Low Top trainers: verdict

With an incredibly affordable price tag, Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Low Top sneakers have to be some of the best white trainers out there, especially if you’re on a budget.

Their classic, low-key style makes them the perfect addition to every wardrobe and their versatility is a definite plus, particularly if you’re packing for a mini break or hand luggage only.

While they might need a little bit of breaking in, once they’ve moulded to your foot they are extremely comfortable, even for those spending a whole day on their feet.
