Skin feeling dry and sensitive? No7’s new Menopause Skincare range gives radiant and replenished looking skin
Whether you’ve hit that menopause milestone, or are in the midst of the perimenopausal run-up (the transition phase leading up to your last period, which can last up to four or five years) you’ve probably noticed some changes in your skin. We’re all well-versed on the hot flushes that accompany the ‘change’ but what is less talked about is the impact menopause and the decline in oestrogen hormones has on our skin. According to No7 research, many women do not understand how the skin changes during perimenopause and menopause. In fact, 56% of women did not recognise their skin symptoms as part of the menopause, and 72% of women were not happy with the current appearance of their skin*.
Hurrah then for No7, the UK’s number one skincare brand** who has launched a whole collection targetting key visual signs*** of menopausal skin. No7 Menopause Skincare launches with four products – day cream, night cream, serum and cooling mist, co-created with a cohort of over 7,000 menopausal women. The range has been developed by No7 scientists using unique insights from its 20-year partnership with the University of Manchester into how and why the skin changes as we age, and almost five years of research and development into how the skin changes during the perimenopause and menopause transition.
“The new No7 Menopause Skincare range has been developed to support skin barrier resilience and tackle some of the most common concerns women report,” explains Dr Mike Bell, No7 Head of Science Research. “From consulting more than 7000 menopausal women in our cohort, we know that the menopause is associated with several undesirable skin changes, with many women reporting increased dryness, dullness and sensitivity. The range delivers against the key visual signs*** of menopause, and we are thrilled by the results.”
Key ingredients
There are many unwelcome side effects of the menopause. As oestrogen levels decline, so too does collagen production – the protein that gives skin its strength – which can leave your skin lined and less firm. The No7 Menopause Skincare targets key visual*** signs of reduced oestrogen and collagen such as dull skin, fine lines, lack of firmness and uneven skin tone. Let’s meet the key ingredients.
- Ceramides: Think of them as the building blocks of skin, helping to restore the lipid barrier responsible for keeping moisture locked in. No7’s research has shown this lipid barrier is depleted during the menopause.
- Niacinamide: Another great ingredient for replenishing the skin’s moisture barrier, as well as rebalancing the skin and helping to even out tone.
- Collagen Peptide-based technology: Matrixyl 3000+ is an age-defying ingredient to help support collagen-depleted skin and target the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
