Jayne Cherrington-Cook
Jayne cut her online teeth in an era when a dialing tone and slow page load were standard. With over 22 years’ experience in journalism, she’s written about a variety of subjects and is just at home road-testing new season trends as she is writing about Pokémon! She spent the start of her writing career within the world of film, pinching herself while she got paid to interview Hollywood stars, attend premieres and lust after red carpet outfits. She then moved into fashion, launching websites for big magazines such as Look, Woman’s Own and Wedding and working with top fashion brands such as Westfield, LK Bennett and Hunter. Career highlights include dressing up as Kylie (in gold hotpants!) for a national newspaper and working on big fashion events alongside Giles Deacon, Henry Holland and Naomi Campbell. Outside of work, she lives in Kent with her husband, dog and son Milo, and spends her downtime doing yoga, reading and scouring websites for stylish vintage bargains.
We asked all our fashion writers to share a little more about their style and their fashion mistakes - because we've all been there.
1. Your earliest fashion memory
It has to be age 5 watching Maria Von Trapp fashioning those amazing outfits for the Von Trapp kids out of curtains in The Sound Of Music. It made me look at fashion in a whole new light!
2. Your biggest fashion faux pas
I was a teen in the ‘80s however, I escaped most of the naff trends (well apart from a ra-ra skirt), however, the ‘90s weren’t so kind. Aged 17/18, myself and my pals would go to parties and the pub dressed up like we were going to the office. Tapered smart trousers, a fitted blouse and an oversized blazer. I don’t know what we were thinking, but looking at the photos now we look like we’re about 30!
3. The trend you can't wait to try this season
Definitely the asymmetric hem. When I got married in 2016, I designed my wedding dress. I love my legs so compromised on the longer length by having an asymmetric hem. I can’t wait to wear it again but this time in perhaps a less formal style!
4. The three pieces in your capsule wardrobe you can't live without
A Breton t-shirt, leopard print boots and a good fitting pair of jeans.
5. Describe your style in 5 words
Minimal, girlie, fun, colourful, laidback
