How to wear luxury fashion: Fabrics

Whether you want sexy shoes, a spritz of perfume, sequins or designer labels, we've found some the most luxurious fashions around. Let our fashion team show you how to wear them

Luxury fabrics
Sally Ireland lives in London and Gloucestershire, and specialises in product design and development.

My style: “I have a very focused wardrobe and don't wear labels just because they are designer names! Dressing down is dressing up for me; I like low-key elegance.”

My idea of luxury: “It's all about luxe fabrics in simple shapes. Iconic designers like Armani and Nicole Farhi are my dream labels. Understated clothes that are beautifully cut make me feel confident.”

Spend money on: “Cashmeres and velvets, and dress them up with the simplest, but best quality accessories. A beautifully crafted silver brooch adds a touch of luxury to a perfectly cut check coat. A luxe velvet tux will never let you down – go for the best you can afford and wear it with white, as crisp as it gets.”

What our experts say: Being tall, Sally can carry off any number of fashion looks. In her line of work, it's critical she gets it right. A well-shaped coat cut to knee-length needs opaque tights and high heels. A sweater dress that slims looks great with biker boots, and a tux has to be in the best quality velvet.

Tux jacket, £649, 6 to 14, BOSS Black. Shirt, £195, 10 to 20, Anne Fontaine. Trousers, from £129, Joseph
