Sue's blog: Delia's lunch

Friday 4th July 2008

I had a great girls' night out on Wednesday. To explain where I was I need to give you the background: the other week, I was attending a Jaeger fashion show at their Regent Street branch (many of you know it well as we've had fashion shows and shopping evenings there) and I bumped into Delia Smith who was indulging in some retail therapy. In fact she was dashing to catch her train, so we had a really snatched conversation. But like most of us girls, you can cram an awful lot into a snatched conversation!

We talked firstly about the fab clothes in the store, and then our forthcoming woman and home lunch at her beloved Norwich City FC. And before she rushed out the door, she said "you must come down for supper". One of the best supper invites I've ever had!

So on Wednesday night me, Jane, our Food Editor, and Lucy, who works with us, went down to Yellows, Delia's restaurant at Carrow Road, Norwich Football Club, to have supper.

Hence the photo with this blog. (Sorry about the quality - it was shot on my mobile as I'd left my camera in my other bag!) What a great night we had. Yellows serves the best diner food I've had in ages – brilliant burgers, steaks, crab cakes, a very special onion loaf and fabulous desserts, especially the ice cream with hot-chocolate fudge. The diet went out the window but it was worth it!

And us three plus Delia and her assistant Lindsay didn't draw breath all evening - you know what it's like when girls get together. We chatted about fashion, food, holidays, the nightmare of airports, football, family and life and there was lots of laughing in between.

In fact it carried on through to the next day when over 100 woman and home readers joined us for lunch with Delia. It was a fabulous lunch and fantastic atmosphere, not that I'm surprised – when we get together we know how to enjoy ourselves!

Have a great weekend.

Sue

PS Our new August issue has just gone on sale.

Look out for more behind-the-scenes gossip next week and the pictures from the Delia lunch will be on womanandhome.com on Monday. I can assure you Angela, our photographer, has done a far better job then me – thank God she remembered her camera!
